Mildred Kieselbach Obituary
Mildred Ann (Millie) Kieselbach died on January 27, 2019. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Myrl Viola and Frank Harsh, husband of 62 years Alfred G. (Al) Kieselbach and sister Laura Jane McGinnis. She is survived by her three children Sue (Doug) Upshaw, Dick (Terasa Long) Kieselbach and Tom (Anna) Kieselbach, three grandchildren Jeff (Katie) Kieselbach, Jenny (Christopher) Campbell and Peter (Maisee) Kieselbach and six greatgrandchildren.
Millie was born and raised in Kent. She graduated in 1938 from the Kent State High School where her father was principal. After graduating from Miami University in 1942, she married Al Kieselbach. For the next thirteen years they traveled to Tennessee and Pennsylvania where Al received his graduate degrees and also lived in Alabama and Texas where Al taught art education at two colleges. In 1955, Millie, Al and the children returned home to Kent where she raised her family and worked as a social worker in children's services at both Portage and Summit Counties. She then initiated, developed and directed the Social Work Department at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
After retirement Al and Millie traveled extensively. Millie still had time to serve on many Boards: Kevin Coleman, 648, Title XX, Portage County Hospice Council, and Caring Home Health. She served as a volunteer at the American Cancer Society, Mobile Meals, Kent Visiting Nurses Association, Well Child Clinic and Kent Social Services. Millie also volunteered as Director of the Hospice Volunteers. Millie was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved her house and Al's artwork. Millie had great neighbors and she loved her cats.
On May 18, 2019 there will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Millie's life. The open house will be at Millie's house in Twin Lakes. It will begin at 11:00 am and end when people leave. The family would like to give special thanks to Marsha Keith who provided care, assistance and love to Millie for the past several years. Because of Marsha, Millie was able to live in her house to the end. Memorials may be made in Millie's name to the Kent Social Services, 1066 S. Water Street, Kent, Ohio 44240.
