James Horning Obituary
James R Horning, age 87, of Kent, died on Saturday, at Summa Hospital Hospice in Akron, after a short illness.
As the Cleveland Indians ended their season, we too must say goodbye to our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surrounded by his family, we lovingly said goodbye on November 3, 2018.
Jim devoted his life to his family. After raising their children, he and his wife Gloria delighted in welcoming each grandchild that helped grow our family. Jim and Gloria enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Summers spent camping were a favorite pastime as were winters in Florida anxiously awaiting the Indians spring training.
Jim was a lifetime resident of Portage County and was employed by Goodyear Aerospace and Loral. Jim served as a Brimfield Township Trustee for many years. Jim was member of the Rockton Lodge.
He is survived by children Brian (Sharon), Greg (Melanie), Kim (Dave) Yost, Melanie (Jeff) Adams and Matthew (Mary Lou); grandchildren, Kate, Annie (David) Pfeiffer, Andrew (Michele), Marissa, Nick, Stephanie (Shaun), Amanda (Steven), Alex, Renee, Jaret, Derek(Maria) and Brandon (Kristina); precious great grandchildren, Matthew, Mia, John, Collin and Adalyn; and sister, Doris Scott of Kent. Jim is also survived by two sisters-in-law as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara (Luikart); wife Gloria (Briner); son Jeffrey and brothers Glenn, John and Billy.

Calling hours will be held 4 PM - 7 PM Tuesday, November 6, at Bissler & Sons in Kent. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, at 10:00 AM at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tina Nees officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted at 4 PM Tuesday, November 6, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Jim who always felt it was better to give than receive, would encourage you to make a contribution to a charity of your choice in his memory.
