Jeanne Kotis Obituary
Jeanne Kotis, 72, of Kent, died on Monday, December 17, 2018, at The Hospice of Medina County. She was born on August 12, 1946, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to John and Jeanne Ann Conway. Jeanne came to Ohio in 1968, and resided in Akron before moving to Kent in 1985. She worked as an insurance agent, bookkeeper, and office manager at the Hall-Green Agency in Kent, and retired from there in March 2016, after 27 years of service.
Jeanne was an avid golfer and was especially proud of her hole-in-one scored while playing in the Sundowners League in Kent. She also loved her "Bunco Babes" group, which met monthly to share a good meal and lots of laughs.
Jeanne was also a lifelong volunteer and ardent supporter of causes she believed in. She volunteered for, and was then employed by, the World Series of Golf from 1978 to 1982. In more recent years, she served on the Board of Trustees of Kent Social Services. Jeanne volunteered for The Brunch Bunch in Kent for 28 years, and was instrumental in growing it into the major fundraiser that it is today. Jeanne also supported Kent State University athletics as a basketball fan and member of the Blue & Gold Club. She was also a member of Kent State's Presidents' Club. Jeanne supported Kent State's Porthouse Theater as a season-ticket holder for many years and by "adopting" students aspiring to work in the theater industry.
Jeanne is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years Richard "Dick" Kotis of Kent, loving daughter Christina (Kevin) Royer of Peninsula, and most beloved grandson, Emerson. She is also survived by brothers, Jack (Sigrid) Conway and Jim Conway, both of Jackson, Mississippi, as well as their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Carl André Conway.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at The Overlook, 1519 Overlook Road, Kent, on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Please join us for the ceremony at 2:00 PM, with refreshments and receiving of friends to follow, until 4:00 PM.
