Mary Katherine "Kate" Swyt died September 29, 2018.
Born May 8, 1943, she grew up in Michigan where she attended Pigeon High School, graduating with honors. After a year at college, she married and had her two children, Tracy and Briton. She later completed her education, earning an MSW from the University of Michigan in 1973. Her career spanned 35 years, first working in community mental health services in northern Ohio followed in 1987 by a move to private practice as a licensed mental health counselor and marriage and family therapist in Fort Myers, FL. When she and her husband Robert Swyt retired in 2008, they relocated to Kent to be near their children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite hobbies were refinishing furniture, needlepoint, and a new one in retirement, gardening. Her biggest and most loved project was constructing beautiful photo albums carefully put in chronological order. She loved reaching out to the whole family for pictures and information.
Kate leaves behind the love of her life, her husband Robert; her brother, William Davies; her children, Tracy (Douglas) Thur, Briton M. Gregor (fiancée Sonya Young), Robert Swyt Jr., Deborah Swyt Mueller, and Shannon (Jesse) Mikluscak; grandchildren, Nichole (Frank) Collica, Corey Thur, Morgan Thur, Nicholas Mueller (Rebecca Galle), Christian Mueller, Alexander Mueller, Jordan Cosentino, and Gianna Cosentino; and one great grandchild, Zoey Collica.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sun. Oct. 21 at 1 pm followed by a service at 2 pm at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main St, Kent OH 44240. Please make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in lieu of flowers.
