Listen to Obituary

Beverly Jean (Schick) Schumann, 74, born on August 18, 1951 passed away peacefully to her eternal home surrounded by people she loved, on November 18, 2025, after a courageous battle against cancer. Bev was a devoted wife to Bob for 53 years, an educator, a cherished family member, and a proud grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to others.

Born in Barberton, Bev was raised in Wadsworth. She graduated from Wadsworth High School, received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron and a master’s degree in education from Kent State University. Bev devoted her life to learning and to nurturing young minds. She began her career as a teacher, where her teaching style and infectious joy and enthusiasm inspired countless students to achieve their potential. As a principal, and ultimately as an assistant superintendent, her leadership and vision further guided teachers to shape their students in her school district. She believed in the power of education to transform lives, and as with all excellent teachers, her impact will continue to echo through the students she helped guide.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Bev was a beloved wife to Bob, a mother, sister, and aunt—someone whose steady presence and generous heart made every family gathering brighter. Her greatest joy, however, was being a mother and especially a grandmother. “Grandma” was her favorite name. She poured her heart into her family with boundless love—celebrating every accomplishment, comforting every hurt, and creating memories marked by laughter, stories, and the gentle wisdom she carried so naturally. Her grandchildren will forever remember her warm hugs, her proud smile, and the way she prayed for them and taught them to pray without ceasing. Beverly and Bob loved their Sunday traditions of going to church and then gathering for Sunday suppers. With a majority of boys in her life, Beverly used her creative license and adapted a traditional cookie bake to an “ugliest cookie contest” because she wanted to bake with her boys. She made every occasion fun.

Bev leaves behind her four sons, David (Kristie), Matthew (Kristen), Brian (Dan) and Tim (Jen); seven grandchildren, Tyler (Paige), Caitlin, Isabella, Conner, Nathaniel, Jack and Ben; and two great grandchildren, Jeramie and Grayson. Bev is also survived by her sisters, Suzanne (Mike), Gail (Steve), Barbara (Brian); brothers, Walter and Jimmy (Tammy); sisters-in-law Katie, Bev, Cindi and Candi; brother-in-law John (Storei); along with many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends who will cherish her memory. Welcoming her to her heavenly home are her loving husband Bob; her parents Jean and John Schick; her siblings, Buz Schick, Marylea Stitzel, and Eddie Schick; her mother and father-in-law, Robert E. Schumann and Ruth Widman Schumann; and brothers-in-law Jerry Vanderhide and Mark O’Mahony. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her kindness, integrity, and spirit of service live on in every life she touched.
