Bruce Scott Vasbinder, 75, of Kent, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Akron, Ohio. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bruce lived a life rich in love, adventure, and quiet strength.
Born on April 15, 1950, in Warren, Ohio, Bruce was raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for community. He graduated from high school in 1968 at Kent State University School and went on to earn his degree from Kent State University in 1973. It was at Kent State where he met the love of his life, Barb. From that moment forward, they were inseparable, partners in every sense of the word. Their bond became the foundation of a lifelong partnership filled with shared adventures and enduring love. They were married 51 years.
Bruce was a lifelong resident of Kent who took immense pride in his roots and shared his affection for the city with everyone he met. Whether he was volunteering, working in the community garden, or simply enjoying the familiar streets of his hometown, Bruce’s loyalty to Kent never wavered.
Family was the cornerstone of Bruce’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife Barb; his sons Aaron (Judy) and David; and his cherished grandchildren Caitlin, Lindsay, Trey, and Willa. His family remembers him as their rock, steadfast and kind, with a quiet demeanor that belied a sharp wit and warm heart. His proudest accomplishments were his two sons, whom he coached through little league and guided through life with unwavering support.
Bruce had an adventurous spirit. He loved traveling with Barb, family, and friends; with recent trips to Iceland and Alaska standing out as favorites among many memorable journeys. Whether driving his Z3 convertible he shared with David or mapping out new counties to visit across the country, Bruce found joy in exploration. Yet no matter how far he traveled, he always returned home with stories to share and memories to cherish.
He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, his kindness and low-key nature drawing people in effortlessly. Whether completing an annual Christmas crossword with family or sharing laughs over a game or meal, Bruce brought people together with ease.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father Gail, mother Martha, and sister Susan. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Those who knew Bruce will remember him for his great sense of humor, love of sports, and deep bonds of friendship. May his memory bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
