David “Bubba” Haren, 68, of Kent, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 12, 1957 in Canton, Ohio, David lived a life defined by kindness, joy, energy, and a deep appreciation for every moment he was given.

David was born to the late Herman and Lucy Haren of Canton and grew up right in the middle of seven children. He attended GlenOak High School, where he proudly played football.

After high school, David became the first in his family to attend college, relocating to Kent State University—a place that would forever become his home. Shortly after graduation, he met the love of his life, Susan Hall, a Kent native. The two married in 1988 and built a life together rooted in love, a welcoming home, and laughter.

David’s greatest joy was his family, especially his three children that he shared with Sue. In 1997, the Haren's purchased their home in Twin Lakes, where they spent countless happy years golfing, swimming, biking, kayaking, playing basketball, and ending many perfect days watching sunsets together down at the lake. Many memories, meals and refreshments were also shared at The Twin Lakes Country Club (later known as The Overlook).

A proud and active member of the Kent community, David was rarely still. From the first snowmelt to the season’s first snowfall, David could often be spotted cruising town in his convertible with the music turned up. Or, on any beautiful day, he could be found trading four wheels for two, riding his bike throughout Kent and neighboring towns. He would somehow manage to fit work, biking, golfing, and swimming into a single day—without ever seeming tired. He lived life to the fullest and often said that he never wanted to waste the time he had. He was a familiar face and could often be found enjoying a good IPA (or a few) around town, and he never passed up the chance to listen to live music.

David also had a deep love of travel and was always planning his next adventure with Sue, often sharing photos of their journeys with his many Instagram “fans.”

While David loved meeting new people, he also cherished the lifelong friendships that he formed in college, remaining in close contact with many wonderful friends right up until the weeks and days before his passing.

In 2024, David became a grandfather for the first time, a role he embraced with immense pride and joy. He adored his grandson and loved showing him off around town to anyone who would listen.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lucy Haren; his nephew, Eric Addessi; and his sister-in-law, Linda Hall. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Susan Haren; his children, Corey (Simone De Cárdenas) Haren of Akron, Rosaleigh (Adam) Tran of Kent, and Troy Haren of Columbus; his cherished grandson, Levi Tran and Levi’s baby brother on the way. He also leaves behind his six siblings: Dan (Teresa) Haren, Nancy (Rick) Addessi, Debbie (Larry) Bergert, Ed Haren, Rob Haren, and Mike (Robyn) Haren, along with many nieces and nephews who adored him.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sydney Bradley, the staff at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and Hospice of the Western Reserve for their unwavering love, care, and compassion.
