Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Dexter Castleman on July 30, 2025 at the age of 76.

Edwin was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated from Glenville High School before serving in the United States Air Force with a focus on language studies.

He excelled at competitive sports like wrestling and football. Following his military service, he pursued further education at Cleveland State University. He then went on to pursue a career at LTV Steel. He retired from ISG, previously LTV Steel, after nearly 50 years of service. Edwin later met and married Marilyn Evans.

Edwin was a big man with an even bigger heart. He will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, intellect, and generosity toward everyone who crossed his path. He found joy in simple pleasures like long walks through the woods (where on one of those walks, he met his future wife, Marilyn), afternoons spent with an engaging book, and meaningful conversations about global cultures. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will value his wisdom, compassion, and willingness to listen without judgment. Edwin's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared so freely. His presence will be deeply missed but his memory will be held close in the hearts of family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Ellen Richardson (Steven); children, Philip Evans, Joshua Evans (Dana), Kristiana Evans; grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Dominique, Eric, Carolina, Joshua Jr, Victoria, Kayla, Jaydn, Lani, Skye, Zoey, and Evan; also great-grandchildren; his niece, Simone Castleman Bell (Ronnie); his cousin, Sandra Thorton; as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Ollie B. Castleman; his wife, Marilyn Castleman; and his sisters, Rocky Castleman and Barbara Castleman.

Edwin will be cremated and his ashes will be buried with his wife, Marilyn, at the Foxfield Preserve Cemetery in a private ceremony on October 4, 2025. His life will be celebrated with heartfelt tributes from those who cherished him. While his loss is deeply felt and we will miss him dearly, we can take comfort in the fact that he is now in a better place, free from all pain and suffering. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Bye, bye Eddie Bear.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:9).
