Frederick Carl Jacobs

Frederick C. Jacobs, age 96, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2026, with his children by his side. He was dearly loved by his family and friends who knew him, and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Jacobs (Marxen), and his beloved daughter, Yvonne Chord (Kenneth).

Fred was a life-long resident of Kent, Ohio. Born on January 23, 1930 to his parents, Genevieve I. Jacobs (Bahl), and Carl M. Jacobs, he lived with his sister, Mary Lou Horning (Louis), and his brother, Robert Jacobs (Lillian) on College Avenue. He married the love of his life in May of 1954, after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. Fred was the third owner of Jacobs Wallpaper and Paint. He was the successor to his grandfather, who began the business in 1892, and then his father, who passed the family business to him. He bore the family mantel until he retired in 1994. During his ownership, Fred served a loyal clientele who relied on his keen sense of color and his meticulous attention to detail that rendered their hand-crafted needlework into beautiful, framed works for display. Fred was also a craftsman. He had a life-long love of fine woodworking.

Fred is survived by his children, Vincent (Darleen), Stephen (Pamela), Brian (Lisa), Michelle (Paul), and Connie (Timothy), as well as 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fr. William Kraynak officiating. Interment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.
