James Doney

James "Jim" R. Doney, age 68, long time resident of Kent, OH, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Western Reserve Hospital.

Jim was born July 14, 1957 in Akron, OH to Roy and Shirley (Bickler) Doney.

Jim loved the outdoors. He could be seen going for walks around the neighborhood and would say "Hi" to everyone he saw. He loved to sit in his sunroom, watch the birds, and feed the deer and squirrels in his yard. His favorite place to visit was Macbeth Cabins in Cooksforest, Pennsylvania. He loved cars and enjoyed going to the classic car shows downtown Kent. His favorite holiday was Christmas and anyone that knew him knew of his Christmas Closet. He loved to sit in his chair and watch "The Waltons" and "This Old House". He was very kind and generous and loved his family and friends with his whole heart.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Sue Lento, and his beloved dog Sassy.

Jim will be greatly missed by his daughter, Erin (Josh) Ewell; grandchildren, Remy and Dawson Ewell, of Garrettsville. He is also survived by his brother in law, Dan Lento and nieces and nephews Jay, Gina, Mike, Tony, Carmen, and Melanie, all of North Carolina; cousins, Jodi, Jennifer, and David. He will also be missed by his wonderful neighbors Linda, Mike, Vince, and Kelly, who he considered family, along with many friends he met along the way.

Cremation services in care of Bissler & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory. Private interment at Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Portage County APL in Ravenna in Jim's honor.
