James L. Oster July 27, 1935 – February 1, 2026
James L. “Jim” Oster wishes to say goodbye to family and friends, having completed his earthly journey on February 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
Born on July 27, 1935, Jim entered the world as the son of Howard and Phyllis (Morrison) Oster. Both of his biological parents left this life when he was still very young, and he was lovingly raised by his mother’s sister, Irene (Morrison) Jones, and her husband, Wendell along with their children Pat and Dick. To Jim, they were Mom and Dad in every way that mattered, and their guidance shaped the man he became.
Jim graduated from Manchester High School in 1953. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kent State University in 1957, where he was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon member, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Kent State in 1964. His commitment to learning continued throughout his life, including attending Harvard University Advanced Management Program in 1977.
During his time at Kent State, Jim was a dedicated member of the ROTC program, which led to his service in the United States Army from 1957 to 1969. His years in uniform reflected his sense of responsibility, discipline, and service to others — qualities that remained central throughout his life.
On October 7, 1961, Jim married Linda Zaugg. Together they built a home in Mantua, where they raised a family grounded in warmth and commitment, welcoming two children, David Oster and Karen (Timothy Stahlman). Jim took great pride in being a father, and later a grandfather to Rachael (Gustavo) and Jason. He enjoyed the love of nieces Neva Hart and Jody (Matt) Koblenzer, daughters of brother, Dick.
On June 16, 2001, Jim married Patricia Hamilton, and together they shared a life enriched by love, as his family expanded to include Mark (Erin), Dan (Sarah), and Jennie (Quentin) as his own; grandchildren, Morgan, Nolan, Julia, Alexander, and Avery, added even more joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He also adored all his granddogs, who brought him companionship, laughter, and endless affection.
Jim had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether at church, in the neighborhood, or among friends and family, he created a sense of belonging wherever he went. His steady presence, warm smile, and genuine interest in others helped build connections that strengthened the community around him. Jim dedicated his entire career to the field of Human Resources. He spent 19 years with Samuel Moore Company and later led his own consulting firm, Oster and Associates, which remained active until 2008, providing guidance and expertise to business executives and company presidents.
His life was marked by kindness, steadiness, and a quiet strength that uplifted those fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed, yet the love he shared continues to live on in the many people whose lives he touched.
In respect for Jim—and in honor of his well‑known habit of running just a little behind—the Celebration of Life will begin ten minutes late.
