Jane Coles

On July 15th, 2026, Jane (Deely) Coles of Point Pleasant, West Virigina died while living at the Danbury Assisted Living in Tallmadge, Ohio. Jane was born on April 27th, 1934, in Ossining, NY to James and Irene Deely. She was preceded in death by her spouse of 69 years, Finlay (Jack) Coles, along with her sister Marie and her spouse James Timmings. She is survived by her children Jim (Carla) Coles of Bridgeport, WV; Mike (Marty) Coles of Kent, OH; John (Drieva) Coles of Katy, TX; and Kate (Matt) Van Note of Kent, OH. Seven grandchildren Jami Coles (Adam), Austin Coles, Daniel (Morgan) Coles, Caitlin Coles, David Van Note, Megan Coles, and Maddi Van Note. Four great grandchildren Zander, Laila, Landon, and Autumn.

Jane lived in Tarrytown, New York for 39 years. She began her career working in advertising at J. Walter Thompson in New York City. Once she met Jack, they married and started a family. Jack’s work led to a transfer in 1973 bringing the family to Point Pleasant, WV. Jane then began working at Point Pleasant Savings and Loan and later the Mason County Insurance Agency. One spring, while Jack and his sons were fishing, she decided she needed to retire before him, and she made sure that happened. During her retirement she embraced life to the fullest and enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, sewing, baking, and spending as much time as possible with her family.

Jane was a 50-year member of the Tu-Endie-Wei Garden Club. She took great pride in her community involvement, enjoyed participating in all club activities and socializing with the Garden Club ladies. Jane loved driving around Point Pleasant selecting “Yard of the Month” and placing signs in residents’ yards.

Jane was a talented seamstress and she especially loved quilting. She took immense pride in making each of her grandchildren a graduation quilt unique to each grandchild. Making quilts for wounded soldiers combined her love of quilting and her respect and gratitude for our service men and women. She was always working on a project and had many more lined up ready to begin.

Jack and Jane were deeply involved in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), traveling across the country and attending 22 consecutive National Conventions. Jane supported Jack’s leadership roles and made her own mark locally, notably teaching candle-making to school children during Battle Days.

Traveling the US was a favorite pastime. Jane cherished family summers on Cape Cod while living in New York and later in life annual trips to the Cape with cousins.

Jack and Jane moved to the Danbury in November of 2024 to be closer to family. After Jack’s death in January of 2025, Jane stayed active in the Danbury community, keeping busy with many activities, including riding in a soapbox derby car at the age of 91. The family would like to thank the Danbury Tallmadge Community and 3 East at Summa Health System for their care and dedication.

Jane was a devout and dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Point Pleasant, WV where she was actively involved in the life and ministry of the parish.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick Church, 313 N. Depeyster St. Kent, OH. 44240, on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
