Josephine J. Colecchi

Josephine J. Colecchi, age 94, passed away on April 9, 2025, at the Kent Ridge Senior Living Community in Kent, Ohio after several years of failing health. Josephine had a loving and playful personality and was immensely proud of her Polish American heritage.

Josephine was born in Kent, Ohio on March 4, 1931, to Joseph and Anna Jarocki. She lived in Portage County her entire life. Josephine was married to Benny V. Colecchi for over 65 years before his death in 2020.

Josephine was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School and worked as a secretary for a short period of time after graduation. Her primary career was as a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Colecchi of Minerva, Ohio, 5 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister Janina Best. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law - Vincent and Maria Colecchi; Mario and Nancy Mascio; Paul and Josephine E. Colecchi; her nephew Salvatore Mascio; and her niece, Patricia Colecchi.

Throughout the years, Josephine was very loving and supportive of her many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces always taking an interest in their lives and careers.

During the time that she lived at the Kent Ridge Senior Living Community she became known for her creative coloring of styrofoam cups.

The family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to Dr. Emmanuel Yanelli and his office staff for their care and support. A thank you is also extended to the staff at The Kent Ridge Senior Living Community and Traditions Hospice.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at University Parish Newman Center, 1424 Horning Road, Kent, Ohio. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the Newman Center with Rev. Fr. William Wainio as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio.
