Kenneth P. Hankins

Kenneth Paul Hankins, age 91, of Kent, OH, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Kenneth was born April 22, 1935 in Port Arthur, TX to the late Clarence and Imabelle (Rutherford) Hankins.

Ken served in the US Army and for many years maintained memberships in the VFW and American Legion. After graduation from Lamar University, Ken attended the University of Arkansas completing the PhD in 1970. He met and married his wife while in graduate school. They moved to the Kent area in 1966 where Ken taught accounting at Kent State University and Youngstown State University.

He served in many capacities for Franklin Township, including Trustee, Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals, and Township Clerk from 1980-1996 and 2001-2004. In recognition of his service the Trustees dedicated the Pavilion at Chase Park as the Hankins Pavilion.

He is survived by his wife, Nena Hankins; and son, John Hankins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Hankins; parents; and brothers, Armond and Burton.

Per his wishes cremation will follow at Bissler & Sons Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
