Lisa Michael DuBois

Lisa Michael (Schwarz) DuBois, 70, of Kent, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Lisa was born on June 20, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to Donald J. and Anastasia (Malamas) Schwarz.

She was raised in Birmingham, Michigan, and graduated in 1974 from Seaholm High School. Lisa attended college at Michigan State University and earned her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1979. Lisa taught for a few years following graduation, and eventually enrolled in graduate school at The Ohio State University where she completed her Master’s degree in Education with specialization in Student Personnel in 1984. While working at the front desk of the residence hall during graduate school, there was another student who would stop by the piano in the lobby and serenade her from time to time. That other student later became her husband. Hal and Lisa married in Kent in December of 1984 before moving to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where Lisa worked as the Coordinator of College Life at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Following this Lisa worked in resident life at Pratt Institute in New York City before moving to California where they welcomed their daughters, Hali and Hana. The family eventually moved to Kent in 1993 where Lisa chose to focus her energy and talents on raising her children.

Lisa was artistically gifted and wonderfully imaginative. She found space to follow her creative passions throughout her life. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed fiber arts including weaving, knitting, and sewing. Her passion for sewing led her to outfitting the Theodore Roosevelt High School Drama Guild with costumes for more than 10 years. She became an integral part of the theater program as ‘Mama D’ and loved the students as if they were her own children. Lisa also had a profound interest in genealogy. She loved documenting family history and investigating mysteries. We hope she has been able to find the answers to all her lingering questions, and to read the 1890 census, on the other side.

Lisa was empathetic, warm, and loving. Above all else, she loved being a mother. She participated in her daughters' lives at every possible opportunity. Throughout every phase of life, and through every questionable decision, she supported them with unwavering devotion. Lisa was thrilled to welcome their husbands to the family, and even more overjoyed to become Yiayia to her grandson, Logan.

Lisa was the heart and soul of our family. She will be forever loved and forever missed.

Lisa is survived by her daughters, Hali (Thad) Bell of Burlington, CT and Hana (Kevin) Brammeier of Atwater, OH; her grandson, Logan Bell; her sisters, Thea (Nigel) Anderson of Aurora, CO, and Ella Schwarz (Daniel Parisi) of Bluffton, SC; and her nieces, Gabriella Parisi, Claudia Parisi, and Kaela Anderson. Lisa is preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Hal” DuBois; and her parents, Donald and Anastasia Schwarz. We would like to thank her care team, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, Seidman Cancer Center, and Kolby Verrona for their exceptional care.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
