Listen to Obituary

Phyllis Marion Moore, 96, of Bryan, OH, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 11, 1928, in Weirton, WV to William and Enola (Still) Pitts.

In 1946 she met Charles D. Moore (Charlie) while he was renting a room from her mother. They married shortly after and went on to have two children, Carolyn and Charles.

Those who knew Phyllis will remember her for her effortless warmth and compassion, her generous and accepting nature, and unwavering commitment to her family. She had a rare gift for making others feel loved and important, whether she knew you for decades or just met you at the Walmart checkout. She was a caregiver at heart, which served her well as a Home Health Aide, a position she held well into her 80s. She was a magnet to those in need, humans and animals alike, doting on all animals that crossed her path, most notably her beloved Yorkie, Stevie. Phyllis loved plants and gardening, yielding beautiful rose bushes in her younger years, and helping those who couldn’t keep a cactus alive into her later years. Phyillis didn’t let age slow her down or define her. She relished in the number of “greats” in her title and celebrated each birthday with a good Margarita. As her vision faded, she developed a love for audio books, bingo and caring for the birds and squirrels that would come up to her window. Phyllis faced many difficult challenges in life, including being widowed in her early 40s, surviving her five siblings and daughter and losing her vision. Each of these things she faced with resiliency and deep inner strength, never complaining and always putting the needs of others first. She garnered strength from her Catholic faith and strongly believed in the power of prayer. Phyllis gave from the heart, described by her caregivers as, “easy to love,” cherished by the family she leaves behind and adored by all who met her.

Delighting in her memory and mourning her absence are her son, Charles W. Moore; grandchildren, Mendi (Anthony) Antigo, Jennifer Morse, Danielle McCann, Phyllis (William) Clepper, Michael (Jackie) Moore, Jamie (Eric Coopman) Sterns; 19 great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Moore; daughter, Carolyn Sterns; grandson James Sterns; great grandson, Eric Antigo; brothers William, Nelson, Paul, and James Pitts, and sister Elizabeth Jambor.
