Richard Robert Kraft

Richard Robert "Rick" Kraft, 71, of Kent, Ohio passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on September 15, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1954 in Elyria, Ohio to Robert and Dorothy Kraft. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, brother-in law, uncle and friend, he lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He spent his childhood exploring nature, climbing trees, riding bikes, fishing with his family in Canada and playing the trumpet. He attended Kent State University, studying music, where he met the love of his life Susan (Root). They married on May 28, 1978, in a beautiful private ceremony in the woods, and spent 47 years together raising children, enjoying each others families and spending time with their grandchildren.

Rick spent his career crafting beautiful works of art as a master carpenter. Not only did he remodel homes, he also made many beautiful pieces of furniture and gifts for his family, that will be treasured and passed down from generation to generation. He continued to take great pleasure in creating beautiful environments and furniture and he continued to work passionately, with no plans for retirement.

Rick was proceeded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Robert, and son Everett, who was born sleeping. He had a strong bond with both of his parents and enjoyed frequent visits, cooking for them and taking them out and about as they became older. Their memories stayed close to his heart and he often told stories of their time together.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife Susan; his daughter Emily (Jerry); son David; sisters Debbie (Paul) and Karen (the late Glenn); brother John (Louisa); sister-in-law Kristan; brother-in-law Bill (the late Mindy); grandchildren Dominic and Judah and many nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law Annie.

Rick loved his wife and children deeply. He and Susan spent many hours enjoying nature together, traveling together, and raising their family. He would go to any length to help his children in whatever endeavors they were involved in. When Emily was a child, he often carried her in a hiking child carrier, exploring Towner's Woods and Beckwith's Apple Orchards. He went skiing with her to various places and attended many softball and volleyball games that she played in. He was up for any adventure with David, teaching him to kayak and canoe, bike ride, and build things.

When not working, Rick spent most of his time in nature. He was an avid hiker, biker, and kayaker, enjoying the outdoors, both alone and with friends and family. He enjoyed traveling, spending lots of time exploring with his wife, siblings, children, and grandchildren. He was always up for anything and had a quiet and calm demeanor. He especially loved going to various botanical gardens and seeing the amazing plants and flowers.

All who knew Rick will remember him as a gentle, strong and steady man. He was honest and reliable, loving and kind. We miss him immensely and appreciate the strength, love and beautiful memories he has given us. He will live on in our hearts.
