Robert T. Silverberg, Ph.D., aged 84, passed away on June 22, 2026, at Akron General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born on May 23, 1942, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Bob lived a life defined by service, compassion, wisdom, and devotion to those he loved.
Bob was the fifth, and youngest, child of Arne Silverberg and Hilda Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Beverly Steinat, Carol Lawrence Grabel, and Joyce Nantz. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara A. Silverberg; and his loving daughters, Heather Smith (Mark) of Cleveland, Ohio, Amy Silverberg (Karen Bomar) of Denver, Colorado; brother Arne Silverberg (Dailene) of Grants Pass, Oregon; nephew James Williams (Kelly) of Hudson, Ohio, and numerous extended family members throughout the US.
A proud Ohioan, and long term resident of Kent, Bob earned his bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University before continuing his education at Kent State University, where he received both his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He went on to dedicate his professional life to helping others through his work at Kirkhart Psychological Associates, and also in his own private practice, Oakwood Psychological Associates, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Over the course of his career, he touched countless lives as a trusted psychologist, mentor, and advocate for those seeking understanding, healing, and growth.
Before beginning his professional career, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 and was a Vietnam veteran. His military service reflected the sense of duty, discipline, and commitment that remained evident throughout his life. Semper Fi.
Bob will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend, and mentor. He had a gift for making people feel heard, valued, and supported. Known for his kindness, generosity, patience, and willingness to help anyone in need, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was equally known for his quick wit and legendary "dad jokes", which could bring laughter to even the most ordinary moments.
An enthusiastic and lifelong fan of Ohio State football, Bob rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Buckeyes. He also loved staying active, and was a gifted athlete, storyteller, and singer. Whether celebrating a victory, sharing stories with friends, offering guidance to a colleague, or spending time with family, he approached life with warmth, humor, and genuine care for others. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
