Steven Howell Kitchen, age 83, of Atwater, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on June 14th, 2025. Born in Marietta, GA to parents Howell and Alma Kitchen, Steven was a proud U.S. Army veteran who honorably served during the Vietnam War and received a Good Conduct Medal upon his discharge in 1969.
A hardworking man with a creative spirit, Steven spent his career as a material handler and manufacturer for General Motors, but his true passion was music. A remarkably talented musician, Steven was well-known throughout the region for his musical gifts. He famously performed in a number of bands and musical groups over the years, including the beloved Davey Trio. His deep love for music led to active involvement with the Ohio Country & Western Music Association, where his contributions were admired and remembered.
Steven was a man of faith and community, a member of the United Methodist Church of Randolph, and someone who lived with generosity, humor, and heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howell and Alma Kitchen, and his brothers Dillard and Weyman Kitchen. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Diana Joy Kitchen, whom he married on May 2, 1968. He was a loving father to Todd (Amber) Kitchen of Randolph, Diane (Ken) Thomas of Mineral Ridge, Jim (Beth) Kitchen of Brimfield, and Tony (Rae) Kitchen of Randolph. He is also remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored: eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren in total. Steven is also survived by siblings Richard Kitchen, Jerry Pickel, Betty Matheny, and Lynda Kitchen, and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A true original, Steven’s legacy will live on through his music, work, family, and the many lives he touched with his warm presence and unmistakable rhythm.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bissler & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory. Steven will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Randolph. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
