Andrew deMeza Obituary

Andrew J. deMeza, 60, of Kent, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 of cancer. Andy was born to William and Gertrude deMeza in Kingston, Ontario on February 3, 1963. Raised in Stow, Ohio, he graduated in 1981 from Stow High School where he found his love of tennis, a game he continued to play for 43 years. A strong competitor on the court, he was in many leagues and tournaments throughout the community. Despite his illness, Andy continued to play the sport he loved until his last days.

An avid music lover, he was the lead singer of several bands in the 1980’s/1990’s Kent and Akron music scene. A dedicated employee of Time Warner/Spectrum for 32 years, he worked his way up from technician to supervisor.

A great father and loving husband, Andy shared his interests in music, biking, and sports with his wife and sons. He enjoyed his home, gardening and being outside. Andy was well known for his outgoing, fun personality and loved talking with others. An exceptional dog owner, he walked many miles with Snobben and Muddy.

Andy was loved dearly by Julie, his wife of 33 years, and sons Jackson and Zeke. He leaves behind a cherished group to mourn him: brother Bill (Connie); brothers-in-law Samuel and Jason (Lily) Ashbaugh; sisters-in-law Ellen Ashbaugh, Tracy and Mary Jo deMeza; nephews Timothy deMeza, Miles and Martin Ashbaugh; his Pennsylvania family, many lifelong friends and his LaTuchie tennis partners.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Tim and Jon; and father- and mother-in-law Ed and Martha Ashbaugh.

Andy will be forever loved and missed.

A private service will be held along with a celebration of life at a later date.
