Betty L. (Ables) Fowler

Betty L. Fowler, 92, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away peacefully September 18, 2022 at Twin Creeks memory care in Riverview, Florida, after a long illness. 

Betty was born November 3, 1929 to her late parents Elza and Geneva (Shephard) Ables. 

Betty grew up in Barnesville, Ohio and graduated from Barnesville High School, class of 1948.  After high school Betty married John D Fowler also of Barnesville.  Chasing their dream to receive a college education they moved to Kent, Ohio so that John could attend Kent State University.  While in Kent, Betty worked at Davey Tree early on, finishing her professional career at The American School Health Association.  While in Kent, Betty was involved with the JayCee Janes eventually becoming president of the organization.  She was also very involved with area bowling teams at Kent Lanes making several trips to regional tournaments.  After her husband’s passing in 1985 and retirement from The American School Health Association, Betty pursued another dream, moving to Palm Beach Gardens Florida in 1991.  Betty met many new friends and enjoyed her south Florida lifestyle.  She welcomed all of her northern friends to come and visit her in the “tropics” as she called it.  Many spring breaks for family were spent at her Palm Beach Gardens home enjoying the south Florida warmth on her lanai and many trips to the nearby beach. 

Betty is survived by her children, Randy (Nancy) Fowler, and Rebecca (Steve) Egan; four grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Elza and Geneva Ables; and her brother, William Ables. 

Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, September 27 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W Main St, Kent, OH 44240 followed by a Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Doug Denton, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory with burial at Standing Rock Cemetery, 1361 N Mantua St, Kent, OH.
