Carmel Rita (Pappano) DiMauro

Carmel Rita (Pappano) DiMauro, 93, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 12, 2023.  She was born on November 9, 1929, in Akron to the late Nicholas and Marie Pappano.  On May 3, 1952, Carmel married the love of her life, Robert DiMauro, at St. Martha Church. Their love story lasted over 62 years until his death in 2014. 

They had three children, Bobby, Carole (Tony) Mendiola and Cathy Sandella. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittney) Mendiola, and Nina (Zack) Wandrisco. Grandma Carmel cherished her five great grandchildren, Marlowe, Emilia and Lucia Mendiola, Leah and Matthew Wandrisco and overjoyed waiting for the arrival of her sixth. 

We are very fortunate to have over 30 years of her daily journals filled with her precious memories. Carmel was an avid reader of romance novels and a loyal Notre Dame and Ohio State fan. She also enjoyed watching classic movies. Carmel and Robert enjoyed their many years of travel, especially their memorable trip to Italy. 

Carmel was a member of St. Patrick Church and Associates of St. Joseph of Archbishop Hoban High School along with the Associates of St. Joseph Mother’s Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph & Mary, John, Danny & Gen, Frank & Tillie, Tony & Gerry and Antoinette DiMauro. She is survived by brother-in-law, Patsy DiMauro. 

Carmel treasured her time spent with family and will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and Angelo, Alexandra and Cameron.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and care. 

It gives our family comfort knowing that our mom and dad are reunited again.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 11:30AM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30-11:30AM, on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
