Carol "Goody" Lockhart Obituary

Carol A.”Goody” Gooch Lockhart, 87, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center.  She was born on June 23, 1934 in Ravenna to the late Raymond and Ruth Eleanor Gooch.

She graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Elementary Education.  Carol was a first grade teacher at Hudson for two years before starting a family. When she returned to work, she was a Kent City Clerk of Council and secretary for the service director for 18 years.  She was later promoted to the city manager’s administrative assistant, until her retirement in 1996.  She spent a total of 28 years working for the city of Kent.  Carol was the co-founder and partner at The Showcase, a consignment art gallery in Kent.  She was a part time dental assistant with Dr. Mastrianni and also was a private tutor in reading.

Following retirement, she began volunteering at UH Portage in the gift shop and met many wonderful people over the years, that became life-long friends. Carol considered everyone at UH Portage to be her family.  She volunteered and donated extensively to the hospital.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her daughter Erika Lockhart; her brother Vernon and her sister Gretchen.
