Charles Elliott Whiting

Charles Elliott Whiting, age 70, of Kent, died on September 23, 2020 at UH Portage Medical Center.

Charles was born November 18, 1949 in Franklin, PA to Gifford and Mary Louise (Brown) Whiting. He grew up in Jamestown, NY. Charles earned his BS in Education at Edinboro State University and did post graduate work at Akron University.  Teaching brought him to Ohio.  He was later employed by PPG as a researcher and retired as an industrial laboratory manager at Mantaline Corporation. After retirement he started The Promptline, providing private computer education.  He loved traveling by train, woodworking, cooking, photography, and cars. He was a lifelong learner and his friends and family appreciated his dry wit. Charles enjoyed spending the winters in Siesta Key, FL and was a member of the Kent Rotary.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Raab Whiting; daughter, Megan (Colin) Clark; son, Adam (Lara) Whiting; and his expected grandson in March 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford and Mary Louise (Brown) Whiting; uncle, Dr. Charles Brown; and aunt, Elizabeth Whiting.

Calling hours will be held 10:00 - 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Kevin O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Portage APL, 8122 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.
