Deb Jackson Obituary

Deborah “Deb” Cowan Jackson, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 31, 2021, at the Arbors nursing home in Streetsboro.  She was almost 72.

Deborah was born and raised in Streetsboro to Paul and Barbara (Flesher) Cowan.  She grew up on the dairy farm at the corner of Route 14 and Diagonal Road.  It was there she developed her life-long love of animals, almost any kind except snakes.

After she graduated from Streetsboro High School, she tried college for a time.  Then she worked at a variety of jobs like being a nursing home aid, and then bookkeeping and clerical work.  After a time, she grew tired of Ohio winters and moved to Florida in the late 70’s.  There she worked mostly in the medical field as well as enjoying the beaches.  In the early eighties she decided she needed an adventure, so she signed up to work at the missile tracking station on Ascension Island in the south Atlantic Ocean.  She loved it.  She made a bunch of new friends and learned to scuba dive and spearfish.  When she passed away, she still had her scuba equipment, hoping to do it again.

On Ascension she met Ralph Jackson.  They got married in 1988.  When Ralph retired a couple of years later, they moved back to Florida.  She and Ralph then spent a lot of time travelling and just enjoying life.  Along the way she was very observant and learned lot.  She could talk about a wide variety of subjects.

Throughout her life Deb stayed connected to Streetsboro and her family there.  In 2007 she and Ralph moved back to their house beside the Cuyahoga River on Diagonal Road.  They still spent their winters in Florida.  She and Ralph spent the last several years remodeling their Ohio house until Ralph passed away last fall.  Deb spent her remaining time at home with her beloved dog, Ollie.  She will be missed.

Deb is survived by her brother Stephen Cowan of Gresham, OR; her niece Kyle Paradise of Hagerstown, MD; her grand-nephew, Sean Paradise of Ellicott City, MD; and her grand-niece, Quinn May of Fort Campbell, KY.  Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jackson; parents, Paul and Barbara Cowan.  She didn’t want a funeral.  Cremation in care of Bissler & Sons Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, gifts can be sent to the Streetsboro Community Pantry, PO Box 2005, Streetsboro, OH 44241, or any animal shelter.
