Dorothy (Shoemaker) Oliva

Dorothy (Shoemaker) Oliva, 87, of Ravenna, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born to the late Joseph and Mary Monica (Barrow) Shoemaker on January 20, 1936. She grew up in Brady Lake and graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1954. In 1955, Dorothy married Richard M. Oliva, and they moved to Ravenna in 1962.

Dorothy devoted her life to her family, raising her own brood of six kids and then supporting all of them in bringing up their own children and grandchildren. She always put in the extra effort to make each child, grandchild, and great grandchild feel that they were special. Dorothy also worked for several years in the Ravenna School District as an aide at Brown Junior High School.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard, and by her siblings, Mary Helen Howard, Joseph Shoemaker Jr., Margaret Munizza, James Shoemaker, and Carol Mancine.

She is survived by her children, Cathi (Ray) Fiorentino of Ravenna, Cindy Oliva of Cape Coral, FL, Richard Oliva (Aimee Aristotelous) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, David (Nancy) Oliva of Tallmadge, Shari (Scott) Fleming of Ravenna, and Jeff (Lisa) Oliva of Driftwood, TX; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her siblings, Ruth Covella, Robert Shoemaker, Barbara Munson, and Thomas Shoemaker and many nieces and nephews.
