Earl Somoskey Obituary
Earl E. Somoskey, age 86, of Kent, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Akron City Hospital.
Earl was born October 26, 1932 in Cranebrake, WV to Andy and Arty (Crockett) Somoskey. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent. Earl was Past Master of Rockton Lodge #316, Past District Education Officer and Past District Grand Master of the 25th Masonic District, Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio. Also, Earl was Past High Priest Kent Chapter #192, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Recipient of the Meritorious Service Award Valley of Canton, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Masons of Ohio.
Earl worked as a coal miner and retired as a cement truck drive from Horning where he served as Union Steward.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, F. Virginia Somoskey; parents, Andy and Arty (Crockett) Somoskey; brother, Elmer "Bud" Somoskey. He is survived by son, Michael (Jody) Somoskey of Sanford, FL; granddaughter, Macy; brothers and sisters, Geneva "Bobbie" McCormic, Emory "Fuji" (Dana) Somoskey, Delmar (Joyce) Somoskey, Mary Alice Tadlock and Frank (Denny) Somoskey. Barbara Roach was his loving partner for 18 years.
Calling hours will be held 5 PM-7 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, with Masonic Services being held at 6:45 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at United Methodist Church of Kent with Rev. Dr. David Palmer and Rev. Douglas Denton. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rockton Lodge #316, 409 W. Main Street, Kent, OH 44240.
