Eric W. Olson

Eric Walter Olson, age 60, of Kent, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Eric was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Earle and Rosemary (McCafferty) Olson.  He was raised in Medina and settled in Kent after graduating from Kent State University.

Eric was the manager of the Medina Municipal Airport for 30 years.  He was an avid reader, storyteller, gift giver, angler and enjoyed his hobby of brewing fine craft beers.   Eric could tell comedic stories like no other, with great character voices and mannerisms. He was always one to come up with the most unusual gifts for people. He had a kind nature with animals.  Eric loved music, enjoyed festivals, and was a devoted follower of “The Grateful Dead”.  He also enjoyed movies and knew the answers to almost all game show questions.   

Eric is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Carla (Renovich) Olson; his father Earle (Medith) Olson of Medina; his sister Christina (Anthony) Armeni of Medina; brother in-law Dr. Frank (Rose) Renovich of Middlefield; niece Lana (Tony) Reed; nephew Frank Karl (Lara) Renovich; and great-nephews, Parker Reed, Radek Renovich and Roman Renovich

He was preceded in death by his mother Rosemary Olson and his in-laws; Frank, Sr. and Rosalie Renovich.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at the United Church of Christ, 217 E. Liberty St. Medina, OH 44256 on Saturday, April 15, 2023.  Visitation will start at 10:00AM, with the service starting at 11:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Portage County APL.
