John Recznik Obituary

John S. Recznik Jr., 94, of Kent, passed away on November 18, 2020 from complications of Covid at University Hospital Portage. He was born on November 6, 1926 in Lorain, OH to John Sr. and Mary Recznik. He grew up in Lorain where he met his wife, Delores (Dee) while working as a lifeguard at Lakeview Beach. They were married for 67 years before Dee passed away in 2016.

John was a proud Navy Veteran. A member of the greatest generation, he served on the USS Lake Champlain during WWII. He was a member of many civic organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Kent VFW, American Legion and Kent Elks Club. He also served on Kent City Counsel. He retired from Kent Air Tool a division of Gougler Industries after 38 years. He worked as a greeter at Walmart until the age of 90. His other interests included bowling and golf, a hobby he enjoyed playing with several of his grandchildren. John will be remembered for being a soft spoken and gentle man, his generosity toward others and his faith in God. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Our hearts are heavy with immeasurable grief but blessed is the family where there’s a father whose life reflects the warmth of God’s love.

He is survived by his children, Lawrence (Beverly) Recznik of Kent, Michael (Sybil) Recznik of Tellico Plains, TN, Kathleen Recznik of North Madison, Denise (Rick) Henry of Stow and Lori Davis of Kent; grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Moldvay, Nicole (Tim) Jones, Anthony (Theresa) Recznik, Jason Suits, Richard (Jackie) Recznik, Jim (RaKel) Recznik, Michael (Carrie) Recznik, Michelle (Josh) Dalton, Corrie (Dan) White, Jonathan (Rachel) McClure, Joseph McClure, Meghan Davis and Makayla Davis; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Sally Deluca and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dee, sisters, Eleanor Nandori, Maryann Mlakar and Rose Zahratka and brother, Edward Recznik.

Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Church in Kent on Saturday, November 28, 2020 with Father Richard Pentello officiating. John will be interred at Grandview Cemetery in Ravenna Twp. Those attending will be required to practice social distancing and wear masks.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to current world conditions. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, POB 758516 Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or to the Gary Sinise Foundation, POB 368 Woodland Hills, CA 91365.
