Lafe M. "Mike" Russell

Lafe M. “Mike” Russell, 65, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in the comfort of his home.  He was born in Ravenna, OH on August 21, 1955 to the late Norman and Dominica Russell.  Mike was a 1973 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School where he was a member of the baseball team. 

He went on to play in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system and made one appearance in a Major League game before suffering an injury.  He was very athletic and enjoyed playing co-ed softball, golf and bowling and had multiple 300 games.  Mike was very religious and was a member of Riverwood Chapel.  He was an employee of the City of Streetsboro, where he retired from the road crew. Mike will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

He leaves his nephews, Joe White and Tommy South as well as several cousins, neighbors and friends who loved him deeply.

In honoring Mike’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 5:00PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 4:00PM-5:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
