Margaret Hall Obituary

Margaret “Peg” Douglas Hall, 86, of Kent, Ohio, crossed over to Heaven on February 20, 2024.

Peg was born in Shoreham, Vermont to Adah and Malcolm Douglas, the youngest daughter of five children.  She grew up on an apple orchard and loved to make apple pies with her mom and play shuffleboard with her dad.  She also enjoyed skiing, and swimming and ice skating on Lake Champlain.

Peg went to high school at Northfield, and then college at the University of Vermont, where she became a schoolteacher.   She met her husband Edward “Jim” “Ed” Hall at the local church’s singles group, and they were married for over 50 years.

Peg and Ed moved to Ohio and they had their only child, Valerie.  Peg enjoyed working in the layaway department at Kmart, and later at the Kent Free Library.  Everywhere in town she went, people recognized her from Kmart and the library.  Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her cats, knitting, doing puzzles, shuffleboard, crossword puzzles, gardening, following the stock market, and playing croquet with her grandchildren.   She faithfully attended the United Church in Christ for over 40 years, enjoyed volunteering for the Women’s circle at the church and singing hymns.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Adah Douglas; her four siblings, Edwin (Marge) Douglas, Robert “Bob” (Betty) Douglas, Esther Douglas, and Laura Kivlin; and also Ed's parents, Marguerite and Edward Hall.  She is survived by her daughter Valerie Arredondo; son-in-law Mark Arredondo; her five grandchildren, Emily Arredondo, Jeremy Arredondo, Katelyn Arredondo, Cameron Arredondo and Alex Arredondo; and her brother-in-law Winthrop Hall (Sandra).  She has many nieces and nephews, (both surviving and preceding her in death), Amy Douglas, Bonnie Douglas, Carolyn (Greg) Finlay, Meredith Hall, Bruce (Molly) Douglas, Jane (Tom) Kivlin, Betsy (Galen) Ainsworth, Phil Douglas, Scott Douglas, Bobby Douglas, Ted Foster, Louanne (Ben) Foster, David Foster, Stephen Kivlin, and Brenda Douglas.  She is also survived by many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins.  Her beloved pets during her life included Skipper, Bibs, Ru, Noah, Anthony, Julius, and Boots.

Peg had a sweet spirit.  She was a kind wife, mother, aunt and cousin.  She wanted all people and animals to be treated gently.  Peg will be greatly missed by her entire family.
