Margaret Jane (McNary) Smith

Margaret Jane Smith, 93, of Delaware, OH, long time resident of Brimfield, OH, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Willowbrook at Delaware Run in Delaware, OH.  She was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on May 31, 1928 to the late Cornelius and Florence McNary and was a 1946 graduate of Marissa High School.  She went on to attend Sterling Bible College, then transferred to Muskingam College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education.

Jane taught high school English and History in Crawford County, Ohio.  She conducted class plays, judged public speaking contests for the 4H and FAA clubs and served as the secretary of the Huron County Teachers Association.

She was an active member of Tallmadge Alliance Church for over 30 years.  She was the past President and Secretary of the Woman’s Missionary Society, taught Ladies Home Bible Study and was the first Director of the Tallmadge CMA Daily Vacation Bible School.  Church was a major part of her life, having been raised in a minister’s family and educated in church related schools.

Jane was an accomplished poetry writer and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Theodoric “Ted” Smith on March 25, 2019 and her brother Marvin McNary.

She leaves her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brad Hecker; granddaughter Elise Hecker and brother Paul McNary.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 12:00-1:00PM at Tallmadge Alliance Church, 1155 East Ave. Tallmadge, OH 44278, followed by a funeral service at 1:00PM with Pastor Zach Reeves officiating.  Burial will be at Restland Cemetery.
