Nancy (Barton) Wertz

Nancy Wertz of Kent passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022.  She was born in Wooster, Ohio to Milton and Kathryn Barton on July 31, 1931.  She graduated from Wooster High School and went on to attend Ashland University.  She received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Kent State University where she was a Martha Holden Jennings scholar. 

She started her teaching career in Elyria, Ohio and later moved to Cuyahoga Falls where she taught at Crawford, DeWitt, Price, and Schnee Elementary Schools.  She thoroughly enjoyed her wonderful career working with young children.

Nancy was a member of Akron College Club, Delta Kappa Gama, Chestnut Society, Friends of Fashion, and Herrick Society at Kent State University.  She was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church of Kent. 

She had a great love of travel and enjoyed visiting 70 different countries.  She was preceded in death by her parents as well as husband Ken Wertz.  She is survived by her son Eric Wertz.

Nancy would like to thank Regent of Stow as well as Crossroads Hospice for the great care she received in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Kent and sent to P.O. Box 646, Kent, Ohio 44240. 

A celebration of life service for Nancy Wertz will be held at the United Methodist Church of Kent, 1435 E. Main St., Kent, Ohio 44240 on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. David Palmer and the Rev. Douglas Denton officiating.   A private family burial will be held prior to this service.
