Norman Franklin Janus

Norman Franklin Janus, 87, died on July 16, 2019, at Country Elegance Assisted Living facility in Edinburg, after succumbing to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Norman was born on January 4, 1932, to Polish immigrants, John and Mary (Patlewicz) Janus, of Newton Falls, Ohio, where he was raised on the family farm with several siblings and graduated from Newton Falls High School.   After graduation, Norm (nicknamed “Moe”), went to fight for our country as a gunner in the Korean War.  Upon returning from war, he built a house on the family land, where he raised his family and lived the majority of his life.  He also worked at Falls Steel Tube & Manufacturing for over 40 years, as a pipe fitter.

Norm was a quiet and gentle man with a dry, yet, funny sense of humor.  He kept to himself and enjoyed the simple things in life.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed time outdoors and spent it cutting wood, hunting, fishing, gardening and tinkering in his garage.  He also enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and watching them play sports.  Old western movies were his favorite thing to watch on TV, and he usually did so while holding one of his precious cats, which brought so much joy to his life.

Norman is survived by sons, Jeff (Marcy) Janus of Kent and Eric (Christy) of Shalersville; daughter, Shannon (Michael) Blasio of Uniontown; grandson, Zachary Janus of Fort Worth, Texas; and granddaughters, Kelli Janus of Westlake; Sadie Janus of Port Orange, Florida; Kate Janus of Shalersville; and Luci Blasio of Uniontown.  He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary; and all of his siblings:  Joseph, William, Edward, Henry, Wanda, Stella, Bernice and an infant sister.

Alzheimer’s robbed our dad of his memory long ago, but we relished the rare moments when the dad we knew would shine through in spite of his disease.  Thank you to Country Elegance Assisted Living for their care for the last 5 years of Norm’s life.  The family also wishes to thank his special caregiver, Kelly, for the tremendous heartfelt love and care she gave to our father.  He adored her.

There will be no services.  And, per Norman’s wishes, he will be cremated.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 W. Streetsboro St., Suite 201, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
