Randall Llewellyn Obituary

Randall L. Llewellyn, 66, of Streetsboro, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at UH Portage Medical Center after a six-year battle with cancer.

He was born January 30, 1954 in Ravenna to Noah J and Dora M. (Guthier) Llewellyn. Randy was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent. Randy’s love was construction! He was owner and General Contractor of his business, LLewellyn Construction, which he started in 1979.  His attention to detail shined in all the custom homes, renovations and additions he finished. Randy truly enjoyed his work to the point that it was no longer work, but more his hobby and enjoyment. He took on each job as if it were his last; he gave it his all. He made sure his customers were comfortable while under construction. He would go out of his way to set up makeshift kitchens, was always on call for anyone’s needs and provided his best work as if it were his own home.  He cared for his customers and built relationships that would last a lifetime. Randy worked right up until the end; his last house he worked on was his granddaughter’s. His construction skills kicked in to make this house comfortable to live in while still under construction. Without knowing it, he provided his last makeshift kitchen and natural talent to create a kitchen template, finish wood work and other necessities to complete their home. He would tell everyone, “helping her with her home is what’s keeping me alive.”

Randy married his best friend, Lynda, spending more than thirty-five years together before she lost her battle to cancer in 2017.  They enjoyed being with family, gardening, and MOWING. Randy loved to mow his fields especially with his New Holland tractor.  He also loved to tinker with his Ford trucks which always happened to be white or red. However, his ultimate love and happiness came from his grandchildren. A soft side many didn’t know he had, came through when it came to them. The grandkids always enjoyed him taking them for rides on the tractor or running through the corn.  The options were limitless at grandma and grandpa’s home. He built a large play house for them and it was almost impossible to get them out when it was time to go home. Randy had a large garden where he taught the kids how to grow fruits and vegetables. He would grow pumpkins every year and carve the names of his grandkids into them to ensure the kids wouldn’t fight over the pumpkins. Randy loved to use his skills to create sentimental gifts for the grandchildren. He created custom made mini doll houses for the girls and mini barns for the boys. He also personalized wooden boxes for each to store special things in. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

In his younger years, Randy loved tinkering with his 69 Triumph, playing baseball, and going to local area swap meets, many in Pennsylvania, with his brother, Frank his nephew, Steve and Brian Langston.  He also enjoyed going to Canada with his fishing buddies.

He is survived by his step-daughter Kellie (Jeff) Kapusta; his step-sons Rex Bailey and Doug (Jessica) Bailey; son in-law, Jason Smith; grandchildren Chelsie Langston; Emerie Kapusta; Keegan Kapusta; Bailey Smith; Payton Smith; Gavin Smith; Wyatt Bailey; and great-grandson, Rowan; his sister, Marilyn L. Llewellyn of Kent; brothers, Frank (Lorraine) Hegedus of Brooklyn, CT, Alden E. (Myrna) Llewellyn of North Charleston, SC, Noah J. Llewellyn of Phoenix, AZ, and 10 nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Jennifer “Jip” Smith, his sister, Carol A. Hughes, sister-in-law Loretta Hegedus and brothers Ronald J. and Dale E. Llewellyn.
