Velma M. Strimple, age 89, of Kent, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at The Gables at Kent Ridge.
Velma was born September 19, 1929 in Kent, to Gus and Angeline T. (D'Amico) Thomas. She atteneded Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. In 1970, Velma helped her husband, Reed establish the Strimple Christmas Tree Farm in Streetsboro providing Holiday Memories for area families until 2009. Velma was an avid golfer and loved working and training her Labrador Retrievers.
She is survived by daughter, Julie (Joe) Vickers; step- son, Dan (Jan) Strimple; step-daughters, Judith (Allen) Redwine and Bonita (Jay) Graves; step-grandchildren, Derrick (Amy) Redwine, Scott (Monique) Comernisky and Dana (Kevin) White; brothers, Ronald A. and Richard A. (LaDonna) Thomas; sister, Dorothy Allen; and sister-in-law, Donna Thomas. She was preceded in death by husband, Reed B. Strimple; parents, Gus and Angeline T. Thomas; brother, William A. Thomas; and sister, Thelma Thomas.
The family would like to thank special friend and companion, Jerry Howard; sister, Dorothy Allen and the staff and Nurses at The Gable of KentRidge and Hospice of the Western Reserve for their warm and loving care.
Calling hours will be held 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home where funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM. Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday May 29th at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
