Wendell Gieger Obituary

Wendell J. Gieger, beloved husband, father and grandfather went home to meet the Lord 4 April 2023.   Wendell was born on August 19, 1952 to Wendel and Anna Gieger of Kent, Ohio.  Wendell was a graduate of Kent State University and later from Webster College, receiving a M.A. in Health Facilities Management.  Wendell retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of honorable service at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt).  His final USAF duty station assignment was Superintendent, Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Sheppard AFB, TX.  He had the privilege of serving with the finest men and women in the Air Force.  During his Air Force tenure, Wendell received numerous awards and citations.   After retirement, he traveled to Misawa AB, Japan, Ramstein AB, Germany and Hill AFB, UT with his wife, CMSgt Katherine Trejo.  After his USAF retirement Wendell went on to serve fellow veterans for 10 years before he retired from the Veterans Affairs in Charleston, SC.  He and Kathy traveled extensively while in Japan and Germany.  Kathy at times, “dragged” him along on trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bermuda and cruises to the Mediterranean and the Bahamas.  He was grateful to have such a beloved wife and blessed to have wonderful sons, daughters and grandchildren.  He enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with them.  He was an avid reader of American history, public health policy and fiction.  He was an avid fan of Kent State athletic programs and the Cleveland Indians.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendel and Anna Gieger.  He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine, daughters Tanya (Chris) Koch and Tara (Eric) Severic,  sons, Jason and Matthew (Jennifer), brother, Frank (Christine), niece, Jennifer (Parker) Noonan, nephew, David Gieger, Aunt Elizabeth Keinrad, cousins Erika (Jeff) Cwan, Heidi (Steve) Huy, Robert Major,  grandchildren, Ireland, Harlan, Connor, McKenzie, Caiden, Asher, Keegan and Jenna, and several second cousins.  In addition, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Judd and sisters-in-law, Nancy (Rusty) Tarbox and Tanya (William) Cornetta, and brother-in-law, David (Chanthy) Judd.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private military burial will take place at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.  A celebration of life will also be held at a later date in Kent, Ohio.  Condolences and memories may be shared with the family on the Tribute Wall.
