Yvonne Therese (Jacobs) Chord

Yvonne Therese (Jacobs) Chord, 66, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

She was born on August 23, 1956, in Kent, Ohio to Frederick Carl & the late Dorothy Ann (Marxen) Jacobs.

Yvonne graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1974, where she enjoyed music and playing clarinet in the school band.  She met her husband Kenneth Chord Jr. while in high school and they married October 19, 1974, at St. Patrick’s Church in Kent.

Her husband’s career in the navy brought moves to Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi and then to Virginia Beach, Virginia where she remained the rest of her life.

While raising four children she discovered her talent in hand-painted ceramics and crafting, which she shared with many people she loved.  She also entered her works into a number of competitions.

As her children grew older, Yvonne attended Fuller School of Massage Therapy.  Anyone who experienced one of her foot massages knew that she had gifted hands.  After 20 years in the massage therapy field she found a unique way to expand her work - through massaging competition dogs at agility events and other dog show venues.  She found great joy in helping others feel their best – be it people or canines. 

Yvonne developed lasting friendships with her fellow massage therapists and cherished her long-standing friendships from her early years in Kent.

She is survived by her father; her husband, Kenneth; and her children, Stephanie Ysip, Kenneth III, Jamie and Ryan; her siblings, Vincent (Darlene), Stephen (Pamela), Brian (Lisa), Michelle (Paul) Mucha and Connie (Tim Burmeister) Jacobs.  Yvonne was preceded in death by her mother, in 2011. She is also survived by grand-daughter Kaylah Ysip, as well as numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held at 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main St. Kent, Ohio 44240.  Yvonne will be interred at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio.
